Our sustainable Bodysuits at Organique

In this third article of the product blogpost series, we’re talking about our sustainable bodysuits. The three types of bodysuits come in three different colours. You might have guessed it, three is our magic number today. First, we look at the history of bodysuits. Secondly, we briefly illustrate the functions of them alongside the presentation of our organic, vegan, and fair-trade models. Thirdly you will gain a deeper insight of the sustainable materials used at Organique.

History of Bodysuits

Bodysuits originate from male gymnastics towards the end of the 19th century. First, they were used by a French gymnast Jules Leotard and looked, obviously, a little bit different than the bodysuits we know today. After the turn of the century, as fashion conventions changed especially for women, dancers and gymnasts adapted this kind of clothing, because it offers a lot more flexibility in movements. Not widely used in the 1950’s, the bodysuits were adapted into daily wear by many women in the 1960’s and 70’s. Now bodysuits are worn because of their high functionality. Just like the cycling shorts, bodysuits came in all colours and patterns due to the success of aerobics in the 1980’s. With that they continued to be indispensable for dancers, gymnasts, but for athleisure lovers, too.

Functionality

The secret of the success of the bodysuit, is that bodysuits are themselves a secret. Usually, not being Beyoncé, we use a bottom in combination with a bodysuit. That means we can wear a visible top, tucked into a pair of trousers without having issues of untucking. This exact feature also allows bodysuits to always be fashionable. With our three types of sustainable bodysuits, you can be sure that their simple elegance will accompany you through all sorts of fashion trends while being super comfy. So, let’s have a closer look at them.

Sleeveless Bodysuit

This model is so versatile that a capsule wardrobe without it is possible, but not complete. It offers various combinations with a bottom piece and a blouse, or blazer on top. They come in ecru and black and offer easy access with clips at the bottom part.

Cross Back Bodysuit and Halter Neck Bodysuit

“Plain from the front but a wow-factor at the back” would be the best description for our organic and fair-trade cross back and halter neck bodysuits. Both models come in light brown organic cotton piqué and are accessible without using clips. The fabric of these bodysuits allows you to leave the bra at home if you feel like it.

In general, our organic bodysuits are a great investment towards a more sustainable life, because at Organique we make sustainable clothes you can wear for a lifetime.

Material Insights

We specifically chose natural materials only at Organique. These are organic cotton piqué and organic cotton stretch jersey for your skin to be able to breathe as naturally as possible.

The stretch jersey we use to make the black pieces contains 91% organic cotton (GOTS certified) and 9% elastane to make it follow your movements smoothly. Its surface is nicely even and super soft due to the high content of organic cotton.

Secondly, we use a fabric called Piqué. It is made from 93% organic cotton and 7% elastane and is featured in our light brown and ecru clothing. The difference to the jersey is that it is woven in a minimalistic structural pattern. That gives the clothing piece more depth and a more interesting feel.
