Embracing Eco-Friendly Materials
The first and perhaps most crucial step towards sustainable fashion lies in the materials used. By shifting away from traditional, resource-intensive fabrics like conventional cotton and leather, and instead opting for eco-friendly alternatives, the fashion industry can dramatically reduce its environmental impact. Fabrics like organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and lyocell (TENCEL™) present greener alternatives that are kinder to the planet, as they require less water, fewer chemicals, and have a lower carbon footprint.
Reducing Waste through Recycling and Upcycling
One of the most pressing challenges of the fashion industry is the issue of waste. Each year, countless garments end up in landfills, contributing to environmental pollution and resource depletion. To combat this, sustainable fashion emphasizes recycling and upcycling. Recycling allows us to give new life to old fabrics, creating a circular economy where materials are reused and repurposed. Upcycling, on the other hand, turns discarded items into unique and stylish pieces, reducing the need for new production.
Kindness to Animals and the Planet
Vegan fashion is a powerful movement that rejects the use of animal-derived materials in clothing and accessories. By opting for cruelty-free alternatives such as plant-based fabrics, the fashion industry can significantly reduce its impact on animal life and ecosystems. This shift away from animal-derived materials helps preserve biodiversity, reduces deforestation, and mitigates the harmful effects of factory farming.
Promoting Fair Trade Practices
Sustainability goes beyond just environmental concerns; it extends to social responsibility as well. Fair trade practices ensure that the people involved in the fashion supply chain are treated ethically and compensated fairly for their labor. By supporting fair trade, the fashion industry can uplift communities, enhance livelihoods, and foster a culture of respect and dignity for all involved.
Embracing Ethical Production Methods
Ethical production methods prioritize transparency and accountability throughout the entire fashion supply chain. From sourcing materials to manufacturing, ethical practices ensure that workers' rights are upheld, and environmental standards are met. Brands that commit to ethical production create a positive impact, paving the way for a fashion industry that operates with integrity and respect for all stakeholders.
Conclusion
Sustainability and fashion may once have seemed like conflicting concepts, but it is now evident that they can coexist harmoniously. As the world becomes more conscious of the pressing environmental issues we face, the fashion industry has a pivotal role to play in reducing its ecological footprint. By adopting eco-friendly materials, embracing recycling and upcycling, promoting fair trade practices, and committing to ethical production methods, fashion can transition towards a more sustainable and responsible future.
Organique Studio is dedicated to this vision of sustainable fashion, embodying the principles of environmental stewardship and ethical responsibility. We believe that every step towards sustainability is a stride towards a brighter future for our planet and all its inhabitants. Together, as a conscious community, we can shape the future of fashion into one that nurtures our world rather than depleting it. Let us embark on this journey together, embracing fashion that leaves a positive impact on our environment, and making sustainable choices that stand the test of time.
Have a lovely day,

]]>Yes, we know what you're thinking. "But I have so much to do! I don't have time to sleep!" Trust us, we understand. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of ticking things off your to-do list. But let's be real here: you're not going to be able to do much of anything if you're running on four hours of sleep and a gallon of coffee. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that sleep is just another item on our never-ending to-do list. We convince ourselves that we can get by on just a few hours of sleep a night, and that burning the midnight oil is the key to success. But the truth is, prioritizing sleep is essential for our health and wellbeing.
Sleep plays a vital role in our physical and mental health. It is the time when our body repairs and rejuvenates itself, helping us to stay healthy and ward off illness. It is also the time when our brain consolidates memories and processes emotions, helping us to stay mentally sharp and resilient.
Don't believe us? Well, then, let us hit you with some facts. According to the latest research, not getting enough sleep can have some serious negative effects on your physical and mental health. For starters, it can mess with your immune system, making you more susceptible to illnesses like colds and the flu. It can also affect your cognitive function, making it harder for you to concentrate, remember things, and make decisions.
But wait, there's more! Not getting enough sleep can also lead to weight gain, as it messes with your metabolism and can cause you to crave unhealthy foods. It can also lead to mood swings, irritability, and even depression. And if all that wasn't bad enough, it can also age you faster, as it interferes with the body's ability to repair and regenerate itself.
So, there you have it. Sleep is pretty darn important. To help you with those eight hours a night, we've got just the thing to help you out: Organique Studio Clothing. Yes, you read that right. Our sustainable clothing is not only stylish and comfortable, but they're also designed with your sleep-in mind.
Our clothing is made from a soft, anti-allergic, breathable fabric that will keep you cool and comfortable all night long. They're also made from sustainable materials, so you can feel good about wearing them. And if you're someone who likes to sleep in the buff, fear not. Our t-shirts are so comfortable, you'll forget you're even wearing them.
So, there you have it, folks. On this World Sleep Day, remember the importance of getting those eight hours of sleep. Trust us, your body will thank you.
Have a wonderfull day,

Of course, this can seem like a daunting task at first. But the truth is that investing just 1 hour of your day in physical activity can pay dividends that extend far beyond just your physical health. Here are some of the key benefits that working out for 1 hour a day can offer for women of all ages:
Improved physical health: Perhaps the most obvious benefit of regular exercise is the improvement it can offer for your physical health. Regular physical activity has been linked to a wide range of positive health outcomes, including reduced risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, improved cardiovascular health, and stronger bones and muscles.
Enhanced mental health: Along with its physical benefits, exercise can also be a powerful tool for boosting your mental health. Regular workouts have been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve mood and self-esteem, and even enhance cognitive function and memory.
Increased energy and productivity: Believe it or not, regular exercise can actually leave you feeling more energized and productive throughout the day. By increasing blood flow and oxygenation to your muscles and brain, physical activity can help you feel more alert, focused, and ready to tackle whatever challenges come your way.
Improved sleep quality: If you struggle with getting a good night's sleep, regular exercise might be just what you need. Studies have shown that physical activity can improve sleep quality and help you fall asleep more quickly and stay asleep longer.
Increased longevity: Finally, perhaps the most compelling reason to commit to working out for 1 hour a day is that it can increase your overall lifespan. Research has consistently shown that regular physical activity is one of the best predictors of a longer, healthier life.
Of course, committing to working out for 1 hour a day can be challenging, especially if you're not used to being active. But with the right mindset and tools, it's absolutely achievable. At Organique Studio, we offer a range of sustainable athleisure products that are designed to support your active lifestyle and help you look and feel your best. From our comfortable and breathable leggings to our crop top, our products are made with the highest-quality materials and designed with your comfort and performance in mind.
So why wait? If you're ready to reap the many benefits of regular exercise, start by committing to just 1 hour of physical activity each day. With a little persistence and the right support, you can achieve your fitness goals and improve your overall health and wellbeing in the process.
Your body and your mind will thank you for it!

]]>It is no secret that women tend to put the needs of others before their own. Whether it is taking care of children, spouses, parents, or coworkers, women often neglect their own needs in favor of those around them. While this selflessness is admirable, it can also be detrimental to our health. When we do not take time to care for ourselves, we become burnt out, stressed, and overwhelmed. This can lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension, and digestive issues, as well as mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
Taking time for yourself can come in many forms. It could be something as simple as taking a relaxing bath or going for a walk in nature. It could be practicing yoga or meditation, reading a book, or trying a new hobby. Whatever form it takes, the important thing is that it is something that brings you joy and helps you recharge your batteries.
In addition to the physical and mental health benefits, taking time for yourself also has a positive impact on our relationships with others. When we take care of ourselves, we are better equipped to show up for those around us. We are more patient, kind, and compassionate. We are able to give more of ourselves because we have taken the time to fill up our own cup first.
At Organique Studio, we believe that making time for yourself is an essential part of a healthy, balanced life. We encourage our customers to prioritize self-care and to find activities that bring them joy and relaxation. Our athleisure wear is designed with comfort and versatility in mind, making it the perfect choice for whatever form of self-care you choose.
So, take a moment to ask yourself: when was the last time you did something just for you? If it has been a while, it is time to make self-care a priority. Whether it is a few minutes each day or a longer chunk of time each week, making time for yourself is an act of self-love that will benefit you in countless ways. So go ahead and indulge in that bubble bath, take that yoga class, or spend a day hiking in the mountains. You deserve it!
Have a lovely day!

The growing awareness of the fashion industry's impact on the environment has led consumers to seek out products that are environmentally friendly and socially responsible. This shift in attitudes is due to the growing concern for the planet and the desire to make a positive impact on the world. Ethical fashion, which prioritizes sustainability, fair labor practices, and transparency, has become a key consideration for consumers.
Millennials, who are known for their social and environmental consciousness, are leading the charge towards ethical fashion. This demographic values sustainable and ethical practices, and they are willing to pay more for products that align with their values. In fact, the Accenture study found that millennials are willing to pay a premium of up to 20% for sustainable and ethical fashion products.
However, it's not just millennials who are driving the trend towards ethical fashion. Consumers of all ages are becoming more conscious of the impact their purchasing decisions have on the environment and society. Brands are taking notice and are responding by offering more sustainable and ethical options. From clothing made from recycled materials to transparent supply chains, brands are making a concerted effort to be more sustainable and ethical.
In conclusion, consumer attitudes towards ethical fashion are increasingly favorable, with a growing number of consumers prioritizing sustainability over brand names. This shift in attitudes is driven by millennials, who are willing to pay more for sustainable and ethical products, but it is also a reflection of a broader trend towards environmentally and socially responsible consumer behavior. Brands that fail to adapt to this trend risk losing customers, and it's clear that the future of fashion lies in sustainability and ethical practices.

It’s important to select fabrics that are gentle on your skin and don’t irritate it. Organic cotton and Tencel lyocell are two of the most common skin-friendly fabrics. Organic cotton is made without the use of harsh chemicals, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. The material is lightweight and breathable, allowing your skin to breathe and avoid irritation. It is also hypoallergenic and can help reduce itching and other skin irritations.
Tencel lyocell is another fabric that is gentle on the skin. It is made from natural wood pulp, making it an eco-friendly option. The material is lightweight, breathable, and soft, making it ideal for those who suffer from skin issues. It is also hypoallergenic and can help reduce irritation and itching.
When selecting clothing, look for items made from natural fabrics such as tencel, organic cotton, linen, or other fabrics made with wood pulp.
Avoid synthetic materials such as polyester and nylon, which can be harsh on the skin and cause irritation. It’s also important to pay attention to the labels on clothing.
Look for items that are labeled as “hypoallergenic” or “allergen free”. These items are specifically designed to be gentle on the skin and reduce the risk of irritation. When shopping for clothing, always try the item on before purchasing.
Make sure the fabric is comfortable against your skin and doesn’t cause any irritation.
Finally, consider your closet inventory and invest in a few items of high-quality clothing. Quality fabrics are more likely to be gentle on the skin and last longer than cheaper items.
Finding clothing that is comfortable and doesn’t irritate your skin can be a challenge, but with the right fabrics and a few tips, you can find clothing that is gentle on your skin and looks great.
Organique Studio is the perfect destination for women with sensitive skin in search of the perfect clothing solution. ]]>Not only does it provide us with an ethical and sustainable way to look good, but it also helps to protect the planet and its resources. So, if you’re looking to make the switch to sustainable clothing, here are some tips to help you make the most of it.
Choose Wisely:
When it comes to sustainable fashion, it’s important to make sure that you’re choosing wisely. Look for pieces that are made with natural materials, like organic cotton, lyocell, hemp, linen, or bamboo. Also, look for pieces that are made with minimal water and energy use, vegan, and made by a company that you trust. This will ensure that you’re buying clothing that’s not only good for the planet but also protects the animals and the people who make it.
Care for Your Clothes:
Once you’ve got your sustainable wardrobe, it’s important to take care of it. Sustainable clothing can often be more delicate than traditional fabrics, so it’s important to treat them with extra kindness, love, and attention. To help extend the life of your clothes, make sure to wash them in cold water, and hang them to dry when possible. This will help to maintain their shape and color for longer.
Invest in Quality:
When it comes to sustainable fashion, quality is key. Investing in quality pieces that are made to last will ensure that your wardrobe is both stylish and sustainable. Not only will these pieces look better for longer, but they’ll also help to reduce the amount of clothing waste in the long run.
Be Creative:
Finally, don’t be afraid to get creative with your sustainable wardrobe. Sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be boring – there are so many ways to express yourself and show off your unique style. Whether it’s through layering pieces or mixing and matching colors and textures, there are endless possibilities when it comes to sustainable fashion.
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating a stylish, sustainable wardrobe that’s good for both you and the planet. So, what are you waiting for?
Have a lovely day,

]]>With the average person acquiring 68 items of clothing every year, and with an estimated 11 million tonnes of clothing ending up in landfill each year, it is becoming increasingly important to think of more sustainable ways to deal with unwanted clothing.
The first step is to think before you buy. Before committing to a purchase, ask yourself if you really need it and if you would get enough wear out of it. This will help reduce the amount of clothing you end up with that you don’t need or want. When you do find yourself with clothing that you don’t want or need, there are numerous things you can do with them.
The most sustainable option is to donate them to a charity or thrift store. By donating your clothes, you are helping to reduce the amount of clothing that ends up in landfill and you are also helping people in need. If you want to make a little money from your unwanted clothing, there are a number of online marketplaces such as eBay, Depop and Vinted that allow you to list and sell your clothes. This is a great way to make a little money from clothing that you no longer want.
If you want to make sure that your unwanted clothing doesn’t end up in landfill, you can also look into recycling programs. Many local councils have textile recycling programs where you can drop off your unwanted clothing and textiles and they will be recycled into new products.
Finally, if you want to go the extra mile to reduce the environmental impacts of fashion, you could look into upcycling your clothing. This is where you use existing clothing to create something new and unique, such as turning an old t-shirt into a skirt or an old pair of jeans into a cushion cover.
Overall, there are numerous ways that you can responsibly dispose of your unwanted clothing. By donating, recycling, and upcycling, you can help reduce the amount of clothing ending up in landfill every year and you can also help people in need.
Have a great day,

It was not until the transition to the 20th century that women began to test the limits of current fashion conventions. At that time, it was frowned upon to show skin as a woman; up to the ankle, one had to be covered with long, heavy dresses. This was neither comfortable nor practical, and above all, it was a sign of control over women by the male-dominated society. Women were widely regarded as the property of their husbands and treated accordingly. With the advent of the bicycle as a popular mode of transport, women began to rebel against this dress and male dominance. With long harem trousers that continued to cover everything necessary, yet they could cycle more comfortably and took the first step towards independence.
In retrospect, the two world wars can be named as the emerge for a fashion revolution. For as soon as most of the men were away, women began to work in the factories. Their labor is now used outside the home. This led to the need for practical, flexible clothing and so women began to wear trousers and shirts for the first time in order to cope with their working day. After the world wars were over and men again dominated women's everyday lives, their role in society changed again. Back was the tight, fitted dresses and the image of a perfect housewife who was supposed to please her husband. Of course, progress in women's independence could no longer be halted. Women continued to wear the adapted versions of men's clothes. Nevertheless, to this day, the male image of a beautiful woman's body still determines the way we want to dress and show ourselves.
Since then, brave women have continued to fight for rights that men have long held. Slowly but surely, progress is being made. The right to vote, the ability to have a bank account without a husband's signature or even own a business are just a few examples. Each step means more freedom and independence. This also changes the role of women in our society. Meanwhile, in large parts of the world, we are free to decide our choice of career or partner. But we must remain patient and capitalize on the role models in which women are still seen. So, it comes as no surprise that women are far more present than men in the sustainable fashion industry. Women continue to be in a caretaker role. Standing up for the environment, people and animals with the products made is something we don't associate with masculinity, but with femininity.
Sustainable fashion or organic fashion have made it their mission to give something back to their customers and nature. With ethical manufacturing standards and sustainable resource extraction practices, women can be a role model for all men. It may still be a small niche, but at Organique we believe that every woman has a right to be anything she wants. That's why our selection of sustainable fashion is not just about putting our vegan philosophy into practice, but also about fashion that supports you in your active life.
The freedom to comfortably go through the day and feel strong and bold drives us to make activewear and loungewear from plant-based fabrics. Because if we women stick together, we have a great future ahead of us in harmony with nature.

]]>As the name says, jumpsuits were used to jump – out of airplanes. Their shape comes from uniforms of parachuters in the military. After that the overalls were first adapted to women manufacturing munitions in the second world war. Designers picked up the new concept, but it took three more decades for the jumpsuit to become a popular clothing piece. In the 1960’s and 70’s a jumpsuit was the stage outfit of choice for many performers such as Cher, ABBA or Elvis Presley. It was considered as a unisex piece used by both men and women. Since then, jumpsuits come in all sorts of styles. For an elegant gala but also for a casual hang out. But be aware! There are certain things that may be tricky wearing a jumpsuit. For example, using the toilet in a jumpsuit usually means getting completely undressed. On the other hand, you don’t need to worry about composing an outfit when wearing a jumpsuit because it will speak for itself all by itself.
At Organique we produce solely vegan, fair trade and sustainable fashion. That means, all our jumpsuits are organic and biodegradable. They come in a cycling short- or a long leg version, yet both the top part and bottom parts vary. All jumpsuits have a sleeveless and one shoulder neckline offering two minimalist ways to dress for any occasion, while standing out at the same time. Concerning long jumpsuits we have a stretch version as well as a straight leg version. The stetch jumpsuit sits very tightly on your body while still allowing you to move smoothly. The straight leg jumpsuit however is opposite, as it hugs your body more loosely and casually. Yet still, both varieties provide the feeling of athleisure and elegance around your body.
We specifically chose natural materials only at Organique. These are organic cotton piqué and organic cotton stretch jersey for your skin to be able to breathe as naturally as possible.
The stretch jersey we use to make the black pieces contains 91% organic cotton (GOTS certified) and 9% elastane allowing it to follow your movements smoothly. Its surface is nicely even and super soft due to the high content of organic cotton.
Secondly, we use a fabric called Piqué. It is made from 93% organic cotton and 7% elastane and is featured in our light brown and ecru clothing. The difference to the jersey is that it is woven in a minimalistic structural pattern. That gives the clothing piece more depth and a more interesting feel.

]]>"Sweatpants are the sign of defeat. You have lost control of your life, and then you go out on the street in sweatpants"
- Karl Lagerfeld, 2012.
But is that the case? Let's first take a look at the functions of athleisure wear and lounge wear before answering this question.
Let's take a step back, to where the trend of sportswear on the streets and even catwalks of this world developed. This is because more and more people began to do sports at home, in the gym or in a classroom, especially in the past 80s and 90s. The shapeless, loose sports clothes were quickly replaced by figure-hugging, modern leggings and tank tops. A big bag is no longer necessary for the way to the sports class, because the sportswear itself has long been street-smart and modern. Athleisure Wear was born.
So athleisure wear is mainly about the clothes that you can easily wear both to sport and on the way there. At Organique, we have some pieces that combine sustainable fashion with the benefits of athleisure wear or fitness wear (for example, our cycling shorts or tank tops can be found in this category, among others).
The counterpart of athleisure wear is lounge wear. Loungewear is designed for exactly the opposite of sport - lazing around. The origin of lounge wear can be traced back to pajamas, which (similar to athleisure wear) were tailored with stylish cuts for a trip to the supermarket from the home office or a relaxed weekend coffee with the girls. Your lounge wear look will be united with one of our straight leg trousers paired with a top or a jumpsuit of sustainable fashion. You'll benefit in your everyday life, and so will nature.
Even though at the beginning of our century many people still resisted the appearance of athleisure wear, fitness wear or lounge wear in our everyday lives, the advantages of lounge wear and athleisure wear in particular should have become clear to everyone at the latest in the age of work from home. Going through the workday in comfort and feeling good about it is more important than ever and has absolutely nothing to do with defeat.
This should also have become clear to Karl Lagerfeld shortly after his famous quote, when he launched the sweatpants on the catwalk at Chanel. So, it's high time for the first athleisure wear or lounge wear pieces in your wardrobe.

]]>Mother Nature is the cradle of life. Friedrich Nietzsche summed it up with the quote:
"We feel so at ease in nature because it has no judgment over us."
But the beauty of nature must be protected. You, too, have the power to actively contribute to a clean environment by treating it gently and choosing sustainable clothing. We'll be happy to tell you how.
As a consumer, you have a lot of power over environmental impact - because it just feels good to make positive choices and buy sustainably. Sustainable clothing brands support the ecosystem and respect working conditions.
With sustainable fashion, you can be creative - with a clear conscience:
Lakes and oceans are protected because less water is used; working conditions of seamstresses are respected.
Sustainable clothing brands have environmentally conscious business models that aim to reduce their ecological footprint as much as possible. For example, at Organique we use organic cotton and lyocell instead of synthetic fibers because they are much more biodegradable. Your skin will be happy because sustainable fashion is free of harmful residues from the industrial manufacturing process - it can breathe a sigh of relief!
Sustainable clothing is trendier than ever. More and more fashion-conscious women are choosing to reach for sustainable clothing brands, especially when it comes to sustainable lounge wear and activewear, because it simply feels better! Quality-wise, sustainable lounge wear is far superior to clothes from "fast fashion" shops. By using high-quality and sustainable fabrics, unbeatable wearing comfort is offered.
Especially at home, you want to be comfortable, loungewear should not "pinch" when you are sitting on the couch relaxing and finishing off the evening with a glass of wine. The breathable fabrics of sustainable lounge wear offer the right support.
The cliché that sustainable clothing can only be found in hidden eco-shops and that its shapeless cuts hardly flatter the figure is absolutely a thing of the past. More and more sustainable clothing brands are trying to meet the high aesthetic demands of their customers.
So invest in sustainable fashion active wear that you can wear comfortably during the day, from the home office to an evening yoga date with your girlfriends. They'll soon be enviously asking you where you got that great fitness wear.
Some fast-fashion manufacturers would prefer you to dispose of the newly bought pieces tomorrow - so that you go shopping more often. The new top washes out immediately, the seams tear quickly... Sustainable clothing helps you save money, because sustainable fashion is made to last. So for the sake of your wallet, invest in good quality and you'll enjoy it for longer.
As the world evolves, people are starting to change with it, and sustainable fashion is the next step in the industry.
Be part of the revolution - by working towards not only a fair wage for workers through sustainability, but also the protection of your planet. By choosing a sustainable clothing brand, you are right on the pulse of the times.

]]>At Organique we aim to combine sustainable fashion with functional women’s activewear. Shirt dresses are, similar to bodysuits, inspired by men’s clothing. They represent the resistance of women to gender roles and women slowly entering the workforce. It’s inspired by the Victorian shirtwaist and got developed into the shirt dresses we know today - a combination of two worlds. Back then, they were mostly knee length to protest the reigning clothing standards. Today we can choose between many options of styles, but one thing is for sure: they will always be a solid elegant look for nearly every situation.
With or without sleeves, our organic maxi shirt dresses only come in a versatile black colour. You can wear it open as a light summer jacket or close it with the plastic free corozo buttons and have an elegant dress for any occasion. The Lyocell fabric we use for our vegan and fair-trade maxi shirt dresses has a very even and soft surface; at the same time it’s hypoallergenic. It lets your skin breathe very naturally during hot days which can avoid a smelly affair during a long meeting day at work.
Made from 100% organic cotton, our short sustainable shirt dresses offer comfort and style at the same time. The shirt dress comes in black or white, so you can add fun colourful accessories for the perfect style of the day. The black fabric comes in a woven pattern which is coarser than the Piqué, but it offers the same interesting feel on your skin while being super soft. A smart feature of these short shirt dresses is their pockets that allow you to keep your keys or phone always at reach.
Used for our sustainable maxi dresses and made from cellulose of eucalyptus trees. Eucalyptus is the perfect source for sustainable fashion fabrics, because they are evergreen trees that don’t need a lot of water or pesticides. With non-toxic processes the production of Lyocell became a very good alternative for organic cotton. It is insanely soft and gives your skin room to breathe while being hypoallergenic at the same time.
With nothing added to it, the organic cotton we use for the short shirt dresses is 100% sustainable because it is 100% biodegradable. Also, through the GOTS certification it is ensured that in the farming process least possible pesticides are used and fair wages are paid. With these features, this vegan fabric is the best choice for your skin’s well-being, especially if you struggle with skin irritations and allergies.
In general, our organic shirt dresses are a must have in every capsule wardrobe and a great investment towards a more sustainable life, because at Organique we make biodegradable clothes you can wear for a lifetime.

Bodysuits originate from male gymnastics towards the end of the 19th century. First, they were used by a French gymnast Jules Leotard and looked, obviously, a little bit different than the bodysuits we know today. After the turn of the century, as fashion conventions changed especially for women, dancers and gymnasts adapted this kind of clothing, because it offers a lot more flexibility in movements. Not widely used in the 1950’s, the bodysuits were adapted into daily wear by many women in the 1960’s and 70’s. Now bodysuits are worn because of their high functionality. Just like the cycling shorts, bodysuits came in all colours and patterns due to the success of aerobics in the 1980’s. With that they continued to be indispensable for dancers, gymnasts, but for athleisure lovers, too.
The secret of the success of the bodysuit, is that bodysuits are themselves a secret. Usually, not being Beyoncé, we use a bottom in combination with a bodysuit. That means we can wear a visible top, tucked into a pair of trousers without having issues of untucking. This exact feature also allows bodysuits to always be fashionable. With our three types of sustainable bodysuits, you can be sure that their simple elegance will accompany you through all sorts of fashion trends while being super comfy. So, let’s have a closer look at them.
This model is so versatile that a capsule wardrobe without it is possible, but not complete. It offers various combinations with a bottom piece and a blouse, or blazer on top. They come in ecru and black and offer easy access with clips at the bottom part.
“Plain from the front but a wow-factor at the back” would be the best description for our organic and fair-trade cross back and halter neck bodysuits. Both models come in light brown organic cotton piqué and are accessible without using clips. The fabric of these bodysuits allows you to leave the bra at home if you feel like it.
In general, our organic bodysuits are a great investment towards a more sustainable life, because at Organique we make sustainable clothes you can wear for a lifetime.
We specifically chose natural materials only at Organique. These are organic cotton piqué and organic cotton stretch jersey for your skin to be able to breathe as naturally as possible.
The stretch jersey we use to make the black pieces contains 91% organic cotton (GOTS certified) and 9% elastane to make it follow your movements smoothly.

]]>This week we would like to talk about the very serious effects of the overconsumption of clothes and the fast fashion industry, which brings tremendous consequences to the wellbeing of people, animals and the planet. Thousands of tons of discarded clothes are piling up in African and Latin American countries, tainting their soil, oceans and geologic wonderlands with landfills of garments that could never be sold or donated to charity.
Tons of unsold items of clothing from Europe, Asia and USA, many of which still with tags, are being transported to gateways of Port Tema in Ghana or tax-free paradise of Iquique port in Chile, for resale purposes.
The clothing usually comes from the Fast-Fashion retailers and is made of cheap materials, often highly chemicaland synthetic, which results in the decomposition process taking up to 200 years. The UK alone contributes to over 13 million of clothing items being thrown away each week! It is worth adding that not only new clothes end up being discarded, but also those coming from the second-hand market. Due to the overwhelming quantities of the clothes being donated, charity shops are unable to handle them, ultimately resulting in the donations ending up in the bin….that is the Atacama Desert or the suburbs of Ghana’s capital. Only around 50% of the donated clothes actually end up in charity shops, meaning that the clothes we often hope to give second life to…actually end up being thrown away anyway
Extremely poor quality of the majority of the discarded items, often severely damaged, makes it impossible for the clothing to be resold, with only the best piecesmaking it to the markets that still continue to struggle to match the supplywith the demand. It is estimated that no more than 40% of the discarded items are being resold, with the remaining 60% forming the massive landfills full of garment.
West Africa constitutes one of the biggest markets for second-hand clothing, with 15 million of clothing pieces arriving each week to the region, followed by Latin America and Eastern Europe including countries such as Poland or Ukraine. The biggest landfills of clothes can be found in Ghana, Gambia and Cameroon and can be as high as10 metres with some of them reaching the residential areas.
"Of the 180 light summer jackets, 85 pieces were unsalable: collars ringed with sweat, buttons missing, and bloodstains on the sleeve.”
Emmanuel Ajaab - Ghanian clothing importer.
The reports of the local organizations confirm that the landfills of garments are buried in the sand orare subjected to big burnouts, with one burning episode in Ghana lasting aslong as 11 months! The toxicity of the non-biodegradable materials the clothes are made of, as well as the chemicals used to create the prints, contribute to the pollution of the air, ground andeven water around the affected areas.
In Ghana, during the monsoon season, tropical storms wash the clothes into the network of open sewers, laterresulting in drainage systems being blocked, causing the flooding and contamination. What is more, beaches in the area of Accra, the capital of Ghana, can be seen flooded with the clothing returned from the Atlantic Ocean, which travelled through the open sewers. Both beaches and the ocean are visibly filled with long chains of clothing floating or lying around, tangled in labels and killing the marine life.
What can we do?
Buying less and stopping the destructive circle of overconsumption by changing the shopping habits is the necessary change that has to be made in order to stop or limit the negative consequences brought by the fast-fashion industry. Worldwide clothing production has doubled in the last 15 years, so it is in our power, as consumers, to control our shopping urges and treat clothing donations as a last resort.
Remember, the chances for your dress to end up in a landfill next to someone's backyard, are high.
‘It is easily dismissed as stuff the bin men take away, or that we send to charity shops, but it all goes away somewhere — and that somewhere can be the middle of the Atacama Desert.’ - Carry Somers - Fashion Revolution Activist

At Organique, we offer sustainable fashion that is produced in an ethical environment, made from only natural materials (in this case organic cotton combined with elastane). That also means that our products are always sustainable, vegan and biodegradable.
Back in the 80’s when everybody was obsessed with aerobics, cycling shorts of all colours and patterns entered the fashion world. They were a daily piece worn by celebrities such as Princess Diana or Madonna. On top of that they were very present in movies or tv shows, thus casually worn by everybody. More than two decades later, the 90’s are coming back to our closets and we find ourselves enjoying the comfort of wearing longer shorts made of soft materials.
Cycling shorts are, despite their name, a multi-functional piece for your capsule wardrobe. Made from organic cotton, our women's activewear shorts can be used as work out clothing, casual strolls on a sunny day but also as an undergarment while wearing a midi-dress. We offer two versions of sustainable cycling shorts. One made from organic Piqué in ecru (an off-white shade), and one in a colour block design in black and brown.
For the days when it’s not warm enough to wear shorts, our vegan straight leg trousers will accompany you on your daily quests. Due to their comfort and organic materials, they are our first choice when it comes to lounging at home all day, going for a walk, or doing some soft Yoga exercise. The organic cotton will support your movements smoothly and let your skin breathe naturally. Because of their simple design and high quality, our organic straight leg trousers will stay with you for as long as you can imagine and therefore can't be missed in you capsule wardrobe.
At Organique, we are a sustainable clothing brand, because we want to slow the fashion industry down, make it more ethical and offer our customers a healthier life without any toxins in their women's activewear.
At Organique we specifically only chose fabrics that support your wellbeing as much as the one of our planet. These are organic cotton jersey and organic cotton piqué.
The stretch jersey we use to make the dark brown and black pieces contains 91% organic cotton (GOTS certified) and 9% elastane to make it follow your movements smoothly.
In general, our organic cycling shorts and trousers are a must have in every capsule wardrobe and a great investment towards a more sustainable life, because at Organique we make biodegradable clothes you can wear for a lifetime.

Furthermore, our clothing uplifts our customers with organic cotton and lyocell as the most favourable fabrics for your well-being.
In this first article of our upcoming series of blog posts we present our sustainable fashion products in more detail, and talk about the two types of tops in our Release collection.
These tops are carefully manufactured in Portugal as a base of any athleisure wear outfit. Their colours fit with your unique styling pieces and most importantly with any skin tone. In the following you get to take a closer look at the fitting, functions and materials of our vegan tops.
Named after swim suits (swimming-“tank suits”) in the 1920’s, tank tops became indispensable in men’s as well as in women’s athleisure wear as a base for nearly every outfit. No matter what’s on your agenda, a tank top is always a good idea to start your outfit with. Therefore, it is important that it is well made. This is where organic materials and slow fashion manufacturing have a sustainable impact due to its high quality.
Besides the greater mission to live more consciously, our tank tops will accompany you during sporty activities but also in combination with a pair of trousers, or a skirt the tank top will be the star of your outfit on a lovely night out at the restaurant or during a day in the office.
These days, one shoulder tops are back in the fashion game, and they are here to last. At Organique, we love the fact that a well made one shoulder top comes with the qualities of a basic fit for every outfit. Its asymmetric minimalist neckline will never get out of style and the organic cotton piqué and jersey are too soft to resist. Athleisure wear is all about the combination of comfy clothing that allows you to be active. That is what we designed our one shoulder top to be for you.
The materials make you feel cosy and support your movements at the same time. The top has a strong doubled layering that means it doesn’t matter if you want to go and do some exercise, have a chill day in or go to a networking party, our organic one shoulder top will never leave you hanging, even without a bra.
We specifically chose natural materials only at Organique. These are organic cotton piqué and organic cotton stretch jersey for your skin to be able to breathe as much as possible.
GOTS certified organic Stretch Jersey
The stretch jersey we use to make the dark brown and black pieces contains 91% organic cotton (GOTS certified) and 9% elastane to make it follow your movements smoothly. Its surface is nicely even and super soft due to the high content of organic cotton.
BCI certified organic Piqué
Secondly, we use a fabric called Piqué. It is made from 93% organic cotton and 7% elastane and is featured in our light brown and ecru clothing. The difference to the jersey is that it is woven in a minimalistic structural pattern. That gives the clothing piece more depth and a more interesting feel.
In general, our organic tank and one shoulder top are a must have in every capsule wardrobe and a great investment towards a more sustainable life, because at Organique we make biodegradable clothes you can wear for a lifetime.

Today we would like to tell you more about the packaging materials which we use and where do they come from. We would also like to share the fantastic news of a very exciting exciting eco partnership initiative which we are proud to participate in!
Packaging the eco-way
At Organique, all of our packaging is FSC-certified, meaning that it supports the sustainable harvesting and distribution of packaging materials, ensuring everything is responsibly sourced, achieving the highest standard of ethical production. FSC-certified label is a guarantee for our customers of responsible forest management, wildlife protection as well as protection of the well-being and working conditions of all people involved in the production processes, including local people.
Key Facts:
The tissue paper for the packaging along with the stickers is produced using a wood pulp, also sustainably harvested with certification from the FSC. Each Organic package contains a sticker, a wrap paper as well as a thank you note from us, expressing the appreciation of your purchase. As for the bag in which we send our parcels, we utilize a Compostable Mailer which constitutes a great alternative to plastic poly mailers! Certified compostable, the mailer will break down in home compost in 180 days or in commercial compost in 90 days. Not only is it durable, but also plant-based.
At Organique, we source our packaging from Noissue, a company with a mission to support and empower the shift to sustainable business practices by building a community that can be better together. The company was founded to provide makers, brands and businesses of all sizes access to custom, sustainable packaging. As a result, we are a member of the Eco Packaging Alliance meaning that for every order that is made, one tree is planted in areas of need, contributing to the global reforestation program and helping the environment. So far, the program has resulted in over 43 thousand trees being planted and we are dedicated to making this number grow even more!
Organique – caring for the environment from the beginning till end.
Today we are going to talk about the Fashion Revolution, a movement which is extremely important for us. Each year, in the week surrounding the 24th of April, which constitutes the anniversary of Bangladesh factory collapse, we hold a worldwide fashion revolution week in remembrance of the victims of this terrible disaster which was caused by the effects of fast fashion industry.
What is it?
Fashion Revolution was born in the aftermath of the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013 and it has become the world's largest fashion activist movement which brings together citizens, businesses, marketers, academics and governmental bodies through research, education, and advocacy to stop the negative effects caused by the fast-fashion industry. The mission of Fashion Revolution is to commit businesses to providing fair wages and exercise due diligence by introducing legal regulations that hold businesses accountable to ethical practises. The idea of the Fashion Revolution Week itself is to inform people on the real value of what they buy and wear, and inspire everyone to appreciate the true value of clothes, and to really think through each purchase made.
Rana Plaza Disaster
Rana Plaza is an eight-story fashion-garment factory in Bangladesh which employs over 5000 workers, with the majority of them being young women, to manufacture clothes for some of the biggest retailers in the world. On the 24th of April 2013, the building collapsed as a result of the large structural cracks, poor health and safety working conditions along with numerous engineering issues, which altogether contributed to the tragedy. The number of deadly victims was reported to count as many as 1134 people with thousands more being severely injured.
This horrible accident could have been prevented. The cracks in the building had been discovered and reported prior to the accident happening, yet nothing was done to address the issue apart from closing some of the stores and banks at the bottom floors, leaving garment workers on upper floors still in the building. The pressure from the managerial bodies led to thousands of employees continuing their work as usual, despite life-threatening conditions of the building’s structure.
Fashion Revolution Initiatives
This year’s theme for the Fashion Revolution Week is “Money Fashion Power”.
The garment market drives people into buying things they do not necessarily need, usually in big quantities at relatively cheap prices. By producing way too much too fast whilst utilizing cheap labour and exploiting natural resources, big fashion brands keep growing their revenue meanwhile those who manufacture all the clothing barely make a living, or like in case of the Rana Plaza disaster, pay the highest price of their own life.
The worldwide events which take place this year include a wide variety of sustainable fashion talks and textile industry discussion panels as well as various activities such as bag sewing or upcycling workshops. All of the above are also hosted by industry experts and sustainable activists to adequately educate everyone about the reality of the fashion industry and the ways in which everyone can help battle the negative effects caused by fast fashion. There are also plenty of clothing swap markets organized all over the world, where people can exchange clothing they no longer wear and give them second life, instead of throwing them away.
What can you do?
We, as consumers, have the real power to truly make a difrerence and contribute to positive changes. Just by making the right choices when shopping and investing in better quality products and brands that respect the environment and the workers’ rights, buying less products which will last for longer. Become a conscious shopper. By buying less, we also force the fashion industry to slow down the production in response to the smaller demand. Do not be afraid to contribute to reinforcement of that change. Stand up for what is right!
Organique was also created with the mission of moving the fashion industry towards sustainability. We are committed to using high-quality, low-impact fibres, to create fashion staples that will last, whilst caring for the environment, animals, and the people. We also believe in full brand transparency, because everyone deserves to know what they are buying, and how it was created.

It can get be quite frustrating to hear that you should exercise daily, move more or be more active, especially if all you can think after work is resting on your bed. Our task today is to debunk the myth of exercising as an unpleasant duty or an annoying commitment. You don’t need to be running 5 miles each day to stay on top of your health, but choose the type and intensity of movement which you truly enjoy!
How to move more in your life:
Start small
You do not need to jump to extremes with hours spent at the gym. How about scheduling a 10 minute stretch every day? This can all be simpler than you think. Choose to walk around the house when talking on the phone, have a stroll around the neighbourhood with your friend or plan a short bike ride. Whether at home or outside - any movement is better than no movement at all!
Find a training buddy
It can be very helpful to exercise with a friend as you will automatically feel motivated knowing that you’re not in this alone! On days where you have less interest and energy in putting that extra effort to move your body, you will feel more committed to sticking to your active routines knowing there is someone waiting for you to do it together!
Create a ritual
Set a reminder, choose your go-to walking spot, select a time of the day and a day of the week – whatever it is, it will help you stay consistent and create a ritual which will eventually turn into a habit you won’t be able to imagine your life without. It may be hard at the beginning, but trust the process! If you still find it challenging, try to connect exercise with a fun activity such as visiting a new place (on foot), going on a hiking trip or signing up to dance classes!
Schedule low-intensity days
It is also important to not overdo exercising it as it increases the chances of premature loss ofmotivation or a burnout or may simply result in injuries to your health.Organize your week with high and low-intensity days where you maintain a healthy balance between more physically demanding activates such as running, swimming or weightlifting, and exercises focused more on flexibility, yoga, pilates or slow walks. Remember that your body, muscles and joints need rest too for the exercises to bring visible results and benefits. Speaking of the latter one, why should we move at all?
Benefits of movement
Daily exercise brings enormous benefits to your both mental and physicalhealth. It helps to strengthen your entire body, improve posture and sleepquality, increase brain power, lower the risk of heart diseases, keeping yourentire body and lungs well-oxygenated. Needless to say that practising any form of movement significantly improves your mood and mental well-being by raisingthe endorphin hormone levels and keeping you happy.
Organique was inspired by one particular activity – dance. We believe for it to be a form of an expressive art, a song sang by your body. It conveys messages from the inside of your body onto the outside world. Fluidity of the movement is graceful, beautiful and mesmerizing and these are the qualities we want our brand to be associated with. We believe that our body was made to move and we should never deprive it of its true calling.
Dance expresses more than a thousand words and so do we. So let’s start moving. Let’s begin the conversation.
Dance is the song of the body. Sing yours.
“We have a brain for one reason; to produce adaptable and complex movements. Movement is the only way we can affect the world around us"

]]>When life gets tough, work gets stressful, people are giving you a hard time and world becomes too intense, suddenly you find yourself stuck in a loop of craziness where there is no time for a break. Ironically, that same break you “never havetime for” can become the answer and a golden solution to all the problems you may encounter in your life.
Taking a break and stepping away from everything and everyone for even a moment can have tremendous benefits. Recharging can really help you in becoming more productive, motivated, better focused and happier, particularly in situations when you are anxious and stressed, ultimately improving both, your mental and physical health.
Yet one question still remains - How?
Brighten up your day and mood with activities which bring you sense of comfort and fun, avoiding monotonous tasks. Experts claim for dancing and listening tomusic to be a good way of unwinding and letting your brain rest. Don’t fall into stereotypes thinking that taking a break means going to sleep or simply sitting down. It might be particularly challenging to not fall back to the crazy circle of overthinking and focusing on problems, which is why doing something fun and active is the way to go! You can engage in entertainment and social activities which bring you pleasure and joy such as going out for a meal with friends or playing a short game of pool!
It would be also very useful to plan a break in advance, so that not only you know what you’ll be doing, but also for how long, making your day much more organized, productive and less stressful. What is more, awaiting a fun experience will give you plenty of motivation to keep going in the meantime, knowing there is something great to be looking forward to. You should decide on the length of your breaks and adjust them to your needs.
If short breaks aren’t for you and you feel like you need that little bit of an extra rest, do not be afraid of doing so! Changing your environment completely and going away for a day or two might be just exactly what you need! Want to keepit low-key? Plan a fun staycation and visit that restaurant or a museum you’ve never had time to check out! Still not feeling it? Boogie your way to a party at night to let all your worries go away! Alternatively, there is always home sweet home awaiting your friends accompanied by a nice board game.
The options truly are unlimited. Don’t let anybody, including yourself, tell you otherwise.
Remember to always make time for yourself. Breaks aren’t meant to distract you from the important things or work! Breaks are performance enhancers, mood boosters, stress relievers and they are much needed.

This week we want to talk about our favourite tips to include in your self-care routine and its importance in everyday life. Self-care means giving the world the best of you. Here is how we guide you to do that.
The importance of a healthy diet should not come as a surprise to anybody. Not only does it improve the immunity, strengthens bones and gives a natural energy boost, but it also improves the condition of all our organs including teeth and skin as well as it lowers the risk of many diseases.
Following a vegan diet can give you a great opportunity to learn how to fuel your body with highlynutrient-rich foods and prioritize your health at no compromise of animals and the environment – just like our clothes! Vegan diet can also become a tasty opportunity to embark on plenty new cooking adventures and learn more about the quality products used in recipes, encouraging the use of organic foods which are far richer in antioxidants than conventionally-grown products.
Go health, go vegan – go ahead
2. Exercise Regularly
Improved memory, enhanced mood, better sleep quality, reducedanxiety…these are just some of the main benefits from exercising regularly. It is said that even 30 minutes of moderate physical activity can significantly improve our both mental and physical health. Yoga, relaxing walks, jogging, cycling- there are many forms of physical activity and just because you are not a fan of sports does not limit your possibilities in maintaining a healthy exercise routine!
“Me Time” is a key element in helping our busy brains to unwind. However, it is necessary for it to be uninterrupted and fully focused on you. It allows you to have control over your mood, release stress and even increase patience! The form of “you time” is entirely up to you! Whether this would involve a bubbly bath, an evening with the book or a spa day with a facemask, it is important that you will give yourself a full attention and do things that you never have time to do otherwise.
Self-care is a spiritual practise. Increasing worship does not only have a religious connotation. You can worship yourself and your body, which is your own temple you need to look after. Taking some time to meditate, stretch your body, perform some breathing exercises, light a candle and engage inself-enhancing practises such as journaling and writing down your thoughts and feelings – all of these activities increase worship, the worship of you andyour body.
Last, but not least – be kind to yourself. It is much simpler than you can imagine. Start your day with self-affirmations and few words of encouragement; do not be too harsh on yourself. If you have a bad day, do not stop yourself from indulging piece of chocolate or deny yourself a much needed nap. Do not overthink the past, focus on the present.
Do not overwork yourself and listen to your body – it needs you and your respect.

This week we want to talk about our favourite tips to include zero waste on your budget. It’s a large misconception that a zero waste lifestyle is more expensive. In fact, many people seem to think that buying all the reusable options out there is essential to be zero waste. However, we are here to tell you, that you need very little to become less wasteful.
Yes, that’s an easy one. Living a zero waste lifestyle means producing zero waste.
It’s not really groundbreaking. It’s how it has always been until the industrial revolution. You grow what you eat, and the waste goes back into the land that provides the food. There are no plastics in your life, and everything is organic.
No, we are not suggesting to go back in time, nor to idealize it. Those good old days were very problematic, and not ideal at all. However, we can learn a lot from them!
Why it’s so hard to be zero waste?
It’s basically a rebranding issue. 50 years ago you would only buy what you needed, and grow your own food, because that was your only option. Having a beautiful house full of shiny things was for the 1%. However, after the industrial revolution everyone could have a beautiful house full of shiny things! Even though they are half as valuable, and need to be replaced every other year, we could finally eat brioche.
If you close your eyes, and think about your dream house, how does it look? Probably double what you need, and full of things. And that’s ok. We have been told the same story for centuries, princesses don’t tend to live modestly. Well, this is where the rebranding comes in handy.
That’s why seeing movements like veganism and zero waste become trendy is so exciting! It takes the shame that capitalism put on not owing enough, and makes it sexy! However, we want to make sure those trends don’t get taken off context. It’s easy to turn zero waste into a business because we are looking for reusable items. In one way that’s great! On the other hand, it can be an excuse to keep our unhealthy consumption habits.
Tips to include zero waste on your budget:
Stop buying
Easy and accessible. Just stop buying. It will help you save money and really understand what you need. This is actually a trending subject on youtube!
No-buy month or even year challenges have helped people pay off debt and be forced to look inside and revaluate their lives. Yes, if you thought this wasn’t going to be emotional, think again. We have feelings attached to things. We see our own value through our things. How crazy is that?
We can’t build a better world while, deep down, we still think that what we own defines us. A no-buy time, how long you want to make it, is a great way to start. The worst thing that can happen is an increase in your savings, and who doesn’t love more money?
Do you know what money is? It’s freedom. Feeling free is relaxing. Relaxed humans don’t tend to need to blow off steam on a buying spree. What happens when people aren’t dealing with their feelings through shopping? They consume less, therefore, they produce less toxic waste.
You see why dealing with feelings is important? It can change the world in so many ways!
Buy only what you need
Of course we have to buy some things to live comfortably. So what we do is a list of what we need before going shopping. Always having a list helps to keep us focused on what we really want. Shopping malls and supermarkets are designed to make you consume more than you need. If you go in ready to go directly where you want, you will get out, waste-free. Or almost.
The devil wears plastic
And everything it eats is probably wrapped around it too. Plastic in food can be hard to avoid. Everything is wrapped these days, even fruits! Saying no to single use plastics is essential to our future. Even eating out can be hard if you want to avoid plastic.
That’s why we recommend always being prepared! Know your restaurants and your supermarkets. Going food shopping? Reuse those annoying plastic bags! And if you can, local bio-organic markets are the best. Most of these places still sell food that is not packaged!
Home cooked meals
Taking your own lunch to work will save you money, and will probably be more nurturing. When cooking at home we have more control over how healthy our food is. Not only that, but we know how much plastic isn’t involved. Even the best places need single use plastics to prove their hygiene. Therefore, buying lunch on the go always involves buying plastic. Even if you have to buy a thermos, it will save you money and time in the long run!
Give your car a rest
Another easy way to reduce your waste is to consider your transportation choices. Public transports are the bright future, but not the present. Even though they are getting better, many people still depend on having a car to get to work. Car pools are a great solution for that. Find out if you have a co-worker that lives nearby, and give her a ride! You would both save money on gas, and help the environment!
For short distances, what about getting a bicycle? Going shopping is much more fun in central Europe since big baskets in bicycles are so common! It can be a great workout too.
However, bicycles can be much more than a shopping ally. They can be the best companion for adventures in the city or in the wild Nature. Go for a ride and enjoy the fresh air and the exercise!
More Vegan meals
Meat is not only more expensive than vegetables, but is also more polluting. Therefore, less meat, equals more money in your wallet. And dare we say, it will improve your health! What can be a better tip than one that tackles your own health, your wallet and the planet?
Reuse, repurpose & 2nd hand
So before you go out and buy all the reusable options, use the ones you already own. That’s right, we know how tempting it is to buy beautiful new products in the name of the environment. But the truth is you probably already have everything you need at home. Maybe some repurposing is in order? This is where your creativity can help! Before buying anything make sure you can’t really recycle or upcycle something you already own.
And if indeed you need to buy something, what about looking for it in 2nd hand stores? There are so many people selling things they barely used!
The premise is always the same: to stop mass consumption and start consuming mindfully. This always saves you money and the environment.
Whilst shopping online, or in a store, it is easy to become focused solely on the look and price of a garment, particularly with the amount of choice available to us as consumers. Although fast fashion may feel great on your wallet, something or someone has suffered a consequence for it to be so cheap. When was the last time you considered how these products came to be available for us to purchase?
It often comes as a surprise to people just how many individuals are involved in the creation of a fashion item - the many miles it has traveled and the processes it has been through. Whether it is a simple white t-shirt, vegan shoes crafted from vegan leather, or an extravagant handbag, every item is unique in its production.
Justifying paying more for an item that may look the same but is sustainably produced becomes a no-brainer when you understand the journey the product has undertaken. And fear not, because we’ve devised a general overview on this to get you in the know…
Step 1: Design
During the design process, every creative detail of the product’s look is decided. This includes the colors, print, shape, and fit of the item. Some designs are drawn by hand and others are depicted by a computer. The design process plays a huge part in deciding the sustainability of the item, since it decides the quality and end-of-life. Designing with the planet in mind is usually ignored in the fast-fashion world, with the focus instead on fueling rapidly changing new trends. Items are not built to last or made to be repurposed or recyclable.
In contrast, slow and circular fashion considers the environmental impact of fashion items and aims to make them as sustainable as possible.
"Not only are certain fibers better for the planet and lifesaving to animals, but they can also be kinder on your skin and help you to avoid skin allergies and irritations"
Step 2: Fabric processing
The textile is a key component of a fashion item since it forms the vast majority of the garment or accessories. All textiles are made up of fibers that are arranged in different ways to create the desired strength, durability, appearance, and texture. Fibers can come from many origins, with the four main categories being plant fibers, animal fibers, man-made fibers, and synthetic fibers.
Many consumers are totally unaware of which fibers make up most of their wardrobe, and this is hardly surprising when there is a lack of education surrounding the fibers which we wear day in, day out. For instance, the benefits of switching to organic, less chemically induced textiles are not common topics of conversation. Not only are certain fibers better for the planet and lifesaving to animals, but they can also be kinder on your skin and help you to avoid skin allergies and irritations.
Unfortunately, in the fast-fashion world, the fiber behind the fabric for a garment or accessory is not chosen for its ethics, but for its look and cost. This means the planet, animals, and people come last over monetary gain.
Sustainable fashion on the other hand aims to be kind by creating minimal negative impacts and taking nature, animals, and people into account. Of course, by using alternatives, this does mean it has a greater price tag, but I think we can all agree it’s a fairer one.
Step 3: Garment/accessory manufacturing
Once the fabric is of the desired properties, it can be cut, sewed, and finished into the garment or accessory. The process of crafting the item can undergo an array of inspections including quality checks, evaluation of fit, sizing standardization, and quantity and cost checks, to name but a few.
Organic Cotton Plant: The base of plant fiber Organic Cotton
Four of the largest garment exporters in the world include China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and India. The low-cost labor of these countries draws brands seeking out their own monetary gain over the wages of garment workers. For instance, out of the top four exporters, China provides a minimum wage of just $150-338 per month and Bangladesh only provides an even more shocking $65 per month. Money-focused fast fashion brands will actively seek out the lowest cost garment manufacturing, which often results in low wages, and sometimes even slave labor.
It is possible for brands to ensure the workers involved in the manufacturing of their garments are paid fairly, if they are prepared to make the effort to do so. But as a result, a brand will likely have to sell their products at a higher cost.
Part of the reason why local, sustainable production is more expensive is because the production is in smaller quantities than with fast fashion. It is therefore impossible for these sustainable brands to be price competitive. It is essential to remember that the cost of the item reflects its journey to the fashion shelf.
Step 4: Transportation & Advertising
Transportation is a key part of the production, since it allows for products to be delivered to stores and your front door, thanks to the ease of online shopping. With the rise of globalization, garments have been produced from further afield, and particularly due to fast fashion, the demand for import and export of these items has only increased.
Whether it is by road, train, sea, or air, all transportation contributes pollution to the environment. However, most sustainable brands are making the effort to source and produce their clothes, vegan shoes, and vegan accessories as locally as possible. This helps to minimize the carbon footprint of the item. However, it is usually not the cheapest option, which again lends reason as to why sustainable fashion costs more.
Fast fashion advertising promotes a ‘wear once culture’, selling items that will be out of fashion just as quickly as they came in. Fast fashion brands often create low-quality items that just won’t last the test of time, meaning they must be discarded (also not good for the planet). Minimalist fashion and timeless design are not encouraged in the cheap fashion world, unlike in a lot of sustainable fashion advertising, resulting in the constant consumerist need for more.
Although it might be hard, breaking the cycle on your fast fashion shopping and limiting your exposure to their advertising may really help you to shop more sustainably and only buy what you need.
When you really break it down, you begin to realize just how many people are involved in the creation of a garment, shoe, or accessory. You realize just what you are paying for when you choose a sustainable fashion item over a fast fashion item.
Make choosing the local, ethical alternative a no-brainer, and your conscience, the planet, people, and animals will thank you for it.

Follow our top tips on consuming sustainable fashion, from choosing vegan dresses to living with less
From food to luxury goods, online shopping and making purchases are part of our everyday life and something we would find near on impossible to avoid completely. The secret to shopping sustainably is to avoid mindless consumption (aka buying products we do not need) and making worthwhile purchases. It is easy when you know how, but it can take some practice getting used to.
Interestingly, reports have shown that since the pandemic began, positive changes in consumer’s sustainability habits have sped up. What would have likely taken years, happened within a matter of weeks. For instance, Accenture reported that consumers are shopping more health-consciously and that “45% of consumers said they’re making more sustainable choices when shopping and will likely continue to do so”. Covid-19 opened up new directions for brands, pushing them to consider their environmental relationships and make technological advancements.
People are increasingly becoming more aware of the impact they can have, for instance as IBM states, “57% of consumers are willing to change their purchasing habits to help reduce negative environmental impact”. And this is becoming easier, since the number of ethical products available is on the rise. This lifestyle change to sustainable fashion is key to helping avert the environmental crisis we are facing, so we wanted to bring you some tips on how to alter the way you consume.
1. Shop with minimalism in mind
There is no denying we all love to wander around the shops, seeing which items catch our eye. We will often fall in love with a new fashion item, only to come home and realize we already own an almost identical piece, maybe it is slightly different in its cut or the shade of color, but it is basically the same. Considering the item probably appeals to us because it is familiar is not so surprising, but this is a real problem for the environment. The truth is we do not need this item, and rather we just want it. This is where minimalism comes in.
Have you ever sat down and looked through your closet, grouped all the similar items together, and thought about what your wardrobe does not have, and about what you essentially need? This is a great starting point to open your mind to shopping more consciously since it will make you think twice before making another ‘want’ purchase. To help you out, here are some all-important ‘need questions’ to follow:
Necessary – is it different from anything you already own?
Purposeful – can you think of countless occasions you will wear it?
Simple – is it versatile enough to survive more than a few seasons in the fashion world?
With the average adult American throwing away more than 68 pounds of clothing every year, the likelihood is we could do without many of our purchases, saving more money and time for buying things that make a difference. Minimalism could change your life for the better.

2. Set a budget and stick to it
With the revelations of technology allowing us to pay for items without ever physically holding our money, it’s easier to turn a blind eye and disconnect with how much you are spending. Today, we want you to make use of this technology, by looking back and working out how much money you have spent on average recently on clothes, shoes, and accessories.
Add together all your wardrobe purchase costs for the last 3 months. Divide the figure by 3 to find out your monthly average. Pre-warning: you might be surprised by the amount!
Compare this amount to your ins and outgoings, to figure out how much you would like to be spending per month, and what you can afford.
Remember not to lower your budget too much, since well-made sustainable clothes are not as cheap as fast fashion for a reason. Being too hard on your budget and turning to unethical consumption would achieve the opposite of conscious shopping. Being realistic is essential for success
3. Avoid fast fashion and invest in sustainable brands
Fast fashion is one of the planets biggest problems since the textiles industry is predicted to be responsible for 26% of the Carbon budget by 2050, a tremendous increase from 2% in 2015. There has never been a better time to give up an unsustainable wardrobe and invest in brands that care. You may think you are getting a bargain for your money with cheap clothing, but when you think about the process of making a garment, from extracting the material elements, to the design, the manufacturing, transportation, and advertising, you can see how cheaply made items have consequences. Within our society, this seems to have often been swept under the carpet and ignored, but you do not have to do this anymore.

On a final note, don’t forget about making the most out of the clothes and shoes you already have. If something seems broken, consider whether it is possible to clean up or repair the item instead of throwing it away. Every little change really does help, and the environment will be forever thankful.

Black Friday 2021 is here. The world event is considered the inaugural season of Christmas shopping with significant sales that appeal to mass commerce. At first, it may seem like a good deal; waiting for the day when prices drop dramatically to do your shopping. But there is more to it than you think.
The origins: from crisis to excess
"The biggest retail companies that benefit from Black Friday do not share this privilege with the small local businesses"
The very real risks behind Black Friday
There are already enough people with credit card debts for things they do not need, simply because they are not enlightened about buying consciously. Also, the drastic and temporary drop in prices only creates more discrepancies within the sectors that join Black Friday, resulting in an unbalanced concentration of profits.
And whatever economic factor we present, each one of them gains special prominence in the context of the financial crisis we are still living in due to Covid-19. The biggest retail companies that benefit from Black Friday do not share this privilege with the small local businesses - those that have been severally affected by the negative economic cycle of the pandemic.
Black Friday as we know it ends up bringing many unnecessary risks, including shopping mall gatherings (let’s not forget we are still living in a pandemic) and even outbreaks of violence. There is a strong appeal for customers to opt for e-Commerce during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, this reality comes with plenty of cybersecurity risks such as online scams and thefts. We all love a good business offer, but it is extremely important to be well informed and safe before navigating online commerce.
Some brands actually raise their prices earlier, so that when Black Friday comes, they can sell at their normal prices while making it look like a bargain. Far beyond what we need and want, whether we like it or not, we’re far more susceptible to marketing than we think.
Why do we say no to Black Friday?
Black Friday's consumerist impetus appeals to the superfluous and impulsive buying of items that are often unnecessary. The concept is totally against what sustainable commerce and circular fashion teach us. Black Friday epitomizes the business model of quick production, consumption, and disposal. Just like fast fashion, based on the idea of seasonal and volatile trends.
Fast fashion brands produce clothes so that they go out of style, lose shape, or fall apart quickly. The cheaper something is, the cheaper it was to make. No material thing in life comes for free. Fast fashion’s narrative tells us that following the trends is the only way to remain fashionable, which leads the consumer to buy new clothes frequently. These companies only get richer by keeping this twisted cycle going. Black Friday ends up advocating this consumer mentality, by provoking a drastic increase in demand after a general decrease in prices. And if it increases consumer demand; it will also have to increase the supply.
Creating a high supply leads to mass production, which accentuates many other problems along the way: ethical work conditions are more likely to be violated; there's an increase of waste in landfills that pollute the air we breathe; animal exploitation is intensified to meet production deadlines.
Not giving in to compulsive consumerism and adhering to more sustainable or solidarity campaigns is the first step. Buying only what we need is one of the countless ways to apply minimalism in our lives.
So, if you do really need to buy something and you’re hoping to find a good deal on Black Friday, we’ve got some tips to help you navigate through this event.
How do I buy consciously during this Black Friday?
Don’t feel overwhelmed with Black Friday’s ‘pressure-to-buy’. Here are some questions you can ask yourself before deciding whether to make a purchase:
Is it necessary – do I want it, or do I need it?
It is purposeful – can I think of countless occasions I will wear it? (Calculate your cost per wear)
Is it simple – is it versatile enough to survive more than a few seasons in the fashion world?
These are rational questions that require rational answers. However, a lot of people use shopping as an emotional coping mechanism and a form of therapy. To get truly insightful answers you have to look deeper within. Ask yourself:
-How am I feeling today?
-Did something exciting happen recently?
-Am I feeling vulnerable?
-Am I feeling empowered?
-Do I feel ashamed?
-How in love am I with myself today?
-How magnificent do I feel?
By understanding where our behavior is coming from, we can better understand if we are buying out of a real desire and need, or if we’re just trying to fill a void inside ourselves that will never be satisfied with material things.
With that being said, shall we start purchasing consciously and safely?
